Every time my stoma-versary comes around, the fact that I have my stoma for the rest of my life hits me in the face all over again. I don't think it has ever really sunk in properly. It's crazy, even though it's been 5 years already. It doesn't even seem like it's been that long, time has honestly flown.
When I was younger I had never heard of crohn's disease or even IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). It was more common in adults. I was diagnosed at 11 years old and as I grew up I never knew the seriousness of my illness and neither did I know anyone else with the same thing.
